Part of the original Glass Siren bespoke manufactured series of T-shirt releases. The title of this one was 'This is Acid'. Its was a deep blue pigment dyed garment made from a gas mercerized cotton which i had woven specifically for the range. The garment dye process is one when the t-shirt is construct in an oversize format, then dyed at high temperature in a vat of liquid colour pigment. This process promotes shrinkage in the garment which brings it do the finished size and also binds the liquid colour pigments to the outer surface of the cotton. This process can create some stunning results. I'm really glad I had to opportunity to explore this in depth, especially when the cotton is then finished with an enzyme treatment, which for want of a better word, polishes the fabric.
The "This is Acid' image was a reference to the early days of house music, when the avalanche of disco records were starting to dry up and the dj's such as the late Ron Hardy and Frankie Knuckles were having to start and use their ingenuity to create something new out of the old and push things in a new direction. A visual homage of sorts to the 'tape edit' masters and those dj's who worked tirelessly to draw the hidden magic out of the new wave of studio technology that was emerging at the time. They created a musical monster. The reverberations of which are still as influential today as they ever were.
