↓ Teal version of the Smoke Spheres Metalic (Duo-Tone) Silkscreen Prints.
↓ Spent screen ready for clean up from the Smoke Spheres series.
↓ Framed examples of the Test Tones and Smoke Spheres prints.
↓ The Metalic Duo-Tone silkscreen print process i've been experimenting with can produce a high definition photographic quality images that have a semi reflective finish which looks incredible under direct lighting conditions.
↓ Gold metalic base layer print with a tighter foreground highlights overprinted in cream acrylics combine to create a print outcome that really jumps of the sheet.
↓ The following series of photographs aims to give a little insight into how i use the CMYK print process to create some of my full colour abstract work.
↓ The process begins by producing four separate films and screens in order to be able print the separate cyan, magenta, yellow and black inks.
↓ Here you can see the first cyan layer of this abstract edition which has been printed on a cream acrylic ink background flood with a white underbase.
↓ Once the magenta layer is overprinted on the cyan base the image begins to develop and the solid areas of composition begin to take on a more lustrous glossy look.
↓ Once the process yellow layer is blended with the cyan and magenta inks the raw background colours of the final edition begin to appear.
↓ The black layer is then overprinted which increases the contrast of the print and the colour depth.
↓ A selection of solid spot colours are then hand applied to selected areas of the print. This really boosts all the overall definition of the final image and gives the prints a real three dimentional textural feel with heavy ink application.
↓ The following pieces are large format 30x 30 inch linear abstracts with ultra fine detail that i created using a spinning print platten that i made for the printing press.
↓ Harmonograph patterns often feature on bank notes as a security measure as they are difficult to reproduce. I used these patterns as the basis for these productions.
↓ Two variations in this series were produced. Positive and negtive versions. Both used dilute metalics inks to create a print that looked like to was created with graphite pencil.
↓ These were quite a nerve wracking production to work on due to the levels of detail and complexity of the print process involved!
↓ Both positive and negative versions are now sold out.
↓ Decayed spot colour silkscreen variant. Acrylic and acid erosion process.
Films from the Flow 23 print edition on the studio's light box. The films are used create high definition stencils that ink can be pushed through in order to make the prints.
↓ The finished Flow 23 abstract prints feature a combination of metal compound inks and traditional acrylics. The Duo-Tone process.
