Damon Roberts - Silkscreen Artist

Black and white photog of abstract artist Damon Roberts at Glass Siren Studio - Leeds

After being involved in various design projects over the years i'd amassed a broad knowledge of commercial print processes. Silkscreen printing being one of them. This process opened up a world of creative possibilities that I wanted to explore in my own work using abstraction as a theme.

I eventually hand built a printing press which now forms part of a fully fledged printmaking studio. Having this equipment at my disposal has given me the opportunity to experiment freely and really unearth the magic that can be achieved with this process.

The prints i make come to fruition through a regime of trial and error. It's essentially a process of controlled chaos. My inspiration comes mainly from music, geometry and architecture. Germany's Bauhaus Movement, artist Jamie Reid and designers such as Peter Saville, Vaughan Oliver and Dieter Rams have also been major influences.

The silkscreeen prints i sell are hand produced and have a real tactile quality. Full of nuance and texture featuring heavily overlayed inks which gives them an organic - analogue aesthetic. The ink layering process i favour creates an outcome which is more akin to a painting than a print.

Prints are dispatched directly from my studio in Leeds (United Kingdon). They are supplied in strong cardboard mailer tubes to ensure safe transit. I use Royal Mail insured delivery service and can ship worldwide.
