(Made with Metal Series). Making prints with ground metal was an idea that i wanted to explore. Lots of trial and error involved!

Printing the linear image using adhesive ithat the metal can adhere to is the first stage of the process.

The metal can be fixed permanently using a combination of vacuum pressure and a resin spray sealant.

Once set the ground metal is fixed solidy to the prints surface. The end result was sharpe linear image that had the textural quality of course sandpaper with a metalic underbase showing through that was light reflective.

Deep browns, ambers and reds tones were possible to create by encouraging oxidization of the metal before printing.

This example was hand printed on a thick bed of textured oxidised metal with extremely viscous ink.

Four different colour versions of the Cromalith abstract edtions were created. These unique colour variants where achieved by varying the ink percentages of the cmyk ink mixes which made up the base layers of the prints.

One of the component screens from the Hexamine Heights architectural abstraction prints.

The first four metalic ink base layers

This is most complicated production i've created so far. 30 layers of hand applied inks went into this one. The seed of the idea for this was inspired by the Lloyds building in London where the mechanics of the building are visible on the outside and not hidden away.

One of the films that was used to create the metalic base layer of the edition.

Isolated component layer of the print which was hand applied in glossy red ink.

Close up shot of all the intricate detail. The final edition used metalics, spot colours, gloss varnish. opacity reduced acrylics and flourescents. A once in a lifetime production in terms of complexity that took roughtly two months to create.

Another batch of prints ready to go out to their new homes....

Last but not least and he deserves a special mention here. Horace - who lives under the printing press.
