GLASS SIREN STUDIO - ABSTRACT SILKSCREEN ART: MADE WITH METAL

MADE WITH METAL

By Damon Roberts

MADE WITH METAL

Making prints with ground metal was a tricky process to master. The hardest part wasn't actually making the image but working out how to keep the metal fixed on the surface of the prints.

A flexible resin was eventually sourced that could be adhered with an industrial spray process. Once set the ground metal is fixed solidy to the prints surface.

Deep browns, ambers and reds started to emerge when the oxidisation process occurs. It's also possible to prevent the oxidisation for a cleaner more defined effect which i favoured for the smaller frameable versions.

These 30" x 30" examples were hand printed on a thick bed of textured oxidised metal with with extremely viscous ink that had been fortified with a structure gel.

The example below features a two stage silkscreen print process using muted silver and gold metalics on a bed of course semi-oxidised metal.
